School Board Inclement Weather Procedures

As the weather begins to change and we approach the winter season, we are providing the following information to prepare for any disruptions that we may encounter due to inclement weather. 

Notification of Bus Cancellations and School Closures

Decisions about bus cancellations or school closures generally occur by 6:15 a.m. and are posted to the Wellington-Dufferin Student Transportation Services (STWDSTS) website and Twitter account (Website: Twitter: @STWDSTS) and to school and board websites by 6:30 a.m.

In cases where transportation is canceled but schools remain open, parents should always assess weather and road conditions and make their own decision as to whether or not to send their children to school under the current and expected forecasted weather conditions.

School closure decisions are made in consultation with transportation services as well as through discussion with local Directors of Education and School Board Chairs. For more information on this process, please see the following video from STWDSTS:

School Closures

On days where there is a school closure or a district-wide school shut down due to severe inclement weather or an emergency situation, students will be able to access learning materials on their class D2L page in the morning, similar to the transition to remote online learning during this past school year. Educators will post information and instructions for students by 10:15 a.m.  Asynchronous work or synchronous instructional blocks scheduled for the day will focus on a review of materials and concepts learned, unfinished assignments, etc.  

It is recognized that not all families may be able to connect during the school day due to personal circumstances during these emergency situations. 

Students in our virtual elementary school can continue following the established schedule.
